it is an easy read, contains much information and is helpful to understand people in a general way, and yourself in a much more moving way.. Working through life is constant work, developing and understanding each other and yourself...Trying to find that elusive happiness. When I finished the book, I kept looking at it, expecting more, it somehow did not seemed finished. I have returned to reread it, this time slower looking for the points that I know I missed or skimmed over. This is a book that contains wisdom, should be read slowing and with some thought. Maybe in my second reading I will find the "sudden ending" was not so sudden. Thank you, Mr. Prager, for all that you do to improve the world, one piece at a time.

Prager is Clarity personified. I've been enamored of his clear-thinking and enormous intellect for years, catching his radio show when I can.This book exposes why Happiness is a moral choice and lists the barriers to it in a thoughtful way. I'm still reading and re-reading sections, but I'm glad it's on my Kindle and I'll likely sample some of his other books. Thanks, Dennis!

This little volume offers thought-provoking concepts and fresh perspectives on what it means to be human and operate in a world where others don't always appreciate you, or act like you... and that means most everyone! Suggest you open the book and read whatever "speaks" to you at the time, as each "chapter" is self-contained. Then, when you are ready, start at page one and read all the way through as the author has organized his thoughts. You will gain a much deeper orientation to the material if you read this little book "both ways!"Enjoy!

I am just about finished with reading this great book. Dennis Prager is one of my most favorite radio talk show hosts (12-3 weekdays on the Salem Radio Network). I could listen to him read the phone book and be glued to his presentation. This book is an easy read ..... I can just hear his voicein every sentence. He makes so many excellent observations about "happiness" and "unhappiness" and how we ourselves determine how we willdeal with life's experiences. It is more how we react to them than allowing ourselves be negatively affected. So much "food for thought" in his book.

Really great book. Easy read. Definitely has a lot of great value for you to learn and apply for day to day basis. I've read once and going through specific chapters again now. I recommend it. Be aware though the writer is in to religion so you will get some slights hints of this and be warned by him but you can tell this book isn't written with religion involved its unbiased.

Prager has the most comprehensive statements on and understanding of happiness in existence! His radio show, "HAPPINESS HOUR", on Fridays has been broadcast for MANY, MANY YEARS. PRAGERU is the best educational source for all of us interested in conservative, constitutional considerations.

I love Dennis Prager and I love his outlook on life!!! You can only better your by listening to him on radio every week day and reading his books! Always positive, always a delight and I learn more and more about myself and how to handle situations! I am a HUGE admirer and always tell my friends to listen to him during the week!! His happiness hour is so helpful and the people that call in help me more in understanding how to take complex individuals of all sorts and open my mind to dealing with and liking many of them!! Dennis is an amazing man!!!!!!

This 14th-century adventure book is surprisingly sweet and innocent, considering it includes scenes of battle, privation, and death. Originally published in 1949, and winner of a Newbery award, the story feels dated compared to books published more recently about medieval children's lives. It contains lots of factual tidbits about castles, transportation, monastic life, warfare, and other topics, carefully woven into the tale. A few of these seem anachronistic, such as the song Robin sings for the king - a song actually only a couple of hundred years old. But in fairness, more is known today about historical accuracy than was known seventy years ago. Robin is an appealing character, though he's at the far end of the curve in pushing himself to do tasks that are difficult or dangerous for him. The men who sometimes carry him and his crutches on their backs seem astoundingly strong, schlepping the ten-year-old up and down hills and stairs and towers without tiring; this I found somewhat unbelievable. But Brother Luke's mantra, "Thou hast only to follow the wall long enough and there will be a door in it," is as insightful and useful today as it was for Robin.

I'm so happy that we picked this edition for a gift, it looks better than the picture provided, it doesn't have that Laurel Leaf Newberry line down at the bottom. The story is, of course, fantastic as well as the illustrations! This was a great buy at a great price!

Delightful, low-key, descriptively lean account of England circa the 1330s through the eyes of a handicapped boy. Not the action adventure some readers seem to be expecting, but a non-revisionist slice of life, Middle Ages style. Younger readers will need to be good readers, and patient ones, to reap these rewards. (In fact, that's what this book is about!)De Angeli's short Newbery winner follows Robin, ten year old son of a nobleman fighting in Edward III's "Scottish wars" and one of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting. Robin's London caregivers are wiped out by the plague, so the care of his delicate health (he has recently been stricken lame) falls to a benevolent monk named Brother Luke. The good brother quietly applies himself to strengthening Robin in both body and mind, emphasizing that perseverance and patience will always result in finding "a door in the wall," a way beyond present obstacles. Robin's lessons include wood carving, reading, writing, singing and playing music, swimming, and walking with crutches.There is no insistent plot to jerk the story forward and no loud, overstated characters to interfere with Robin's quiet development. Robin shares some mild adventures on the road in the company of Luke and a minstrel named John Go-in-the-wynd before all his newfound resourcefulness and skill are called upon in defense of a local castle.Nice, pleasant, quick. Unapologetic about the era's Christian culture and the benevolence of its priests, so probably not very popular among trendy Newbery spokespeople these days. But De Angeli's message of gentle, humble perseverance is actually inspiring.
